2015 Federal Election

Well the candidate list is finalized...so he is on the ballot but they have kicked him out of the party so, I guess, he could win the seat and sit as an independant...but, yes, the CPC would not have a candidate there.

Ha, well he could still get elected and rejoin the Cons (if that hasn't been discussed as a firewall option between said parties already).

wouldn't even have to be that formal.....in a likely minority situation he could still be counted on in giving the CPC the confidence of the house....ie he supports their government even if he does not rejoin the party.

Yup, though he would be at a disadvantage when the next election rolls around without the Cons party machinery behind him (in fact, they will probably come up with another candidate in that scenario) - and also, he will need to deliver goodies to his constituents and independent MPs generally aren't in a position to do so.

Sure.....but he could use that time to exhibit (and actually be) more open and accepting of others and possibly that period of rehab/reprogramming (kinda ironic considering the comments and attitudes that got him in trouble) may see him accepted back into the party.

Except that he is probably saying these things because a) it's his belief and b) it's the belief of his base. A public mea culpa would be awkward.

I agree. Why would anyone be surprised that a conservatively religious person would hold conservative religious views on homosexuality, sodomy, progressive sex education, etc? The Cons must have anticipated this when they chose the candidate?

Re your tweet: There's nothing wrong with having an accent, but there is also nothing wrong with what Kenney said. If anything, speaking without an accent shows a remarkable amount of dedication and careful listening; that is a difficult thing to achieve. I would say that it is preferable, in the sense that it makes people more intelligible to others and thus communication becomes easier. Everyone in this country knows what it is like to have spoken to someone you can barely understand; or not understand at all (not that that is anyone's fault, but it is an objective experience we all face). And south Asian accents are some of the thickest and hardest to digest. Speaking as clearly as possible benefits everyone we interact with.
