    SmartTrack (Proposed)

For Canada Line in particular, I quite like walking under the SkyTrain tracks in Richmond. It uses newer technology so you almost couldn't hear the train above you, it's extremely quiet. Also, it's a great weather shelter. In the summer it blocks the sun, in the winter it blocks the rain...

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

Also, the PDF is still kind of vague about the relationship between GO RER and SmartTrack. My understanding is SmartTrack IS GO RER, plus enhancements within the city of Toronto? The last thing I want to see is another single line in its segregated operation that is different from the GO system...

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

In the PDF it says the whole SmartTrack project will cost $8bn and the length is 50km+... Is it really going to cost that much for a surface rail line that mostly exists already?

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

An extended airport Link Train to Malton connecting with the future improved GO RER service along kitchener line would be the best option for YYZ. $6.8 one way, linked to YYZ by an extended Link Train and stops at all stations along the way to both Brampton and Toronto (will include future...

Does Construction Take Too Long to Complete in This City?

It is absurd to have politicians making technical decisions. It should be engineers who decide what is the best way to do things and politicians should just decide on priorities and funding methods. Why do a bunch of people with little to no engineering background whatsoever debate in the city...

Does Construction Take Too Long to Complete in This City?

True. A lot of concrete work also halts in northern China (including Beijing) during winter months where temperatures can dip below -10C. Let's not focus on construction details. Even if construction completely halts during winter, that's only like 3 months out of a year. Extending construction...

Does Construction Take Too Long to Complete in This City?

I don't think it matters that much as to who builds it. Private companies build these pojects and they have to be efficient and competitive. Vancouver built its Canada line with 2/3 of the route underground in 5 years using PPP. And the mostly elevated evergreen line is going to be delivered...

Does Construction Take Too Long to Complete in This City?

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree Toronto public projects are at snail speed. It's ridiculous they are saying DRL would take 17 years! How many 17 years does one person have? Every time I want to rant by thinking about how slow projects are moving. I was just saying if you compare only...

Does Construction Take Too Long to Complete in This City?

Toronto's construction speed isn't that bad, especially office towers and condos. Public projects are much slower but it isn't outrageous compared to other western cities. What is really slow is the time spent in design/EA etc. It seems to take forever to just get the shovels in the ground. That...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Complete wish list for future GO "RER" or "SmartTrack" service: * Complete freight/passenger separation (at least provide station bypass tracks) * Complete electrification * More infill stations (at least inside Toronto) * EMUs (regardless single-level like Tokyo's or lightweight bi-level like...

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

I would really love to see future GO "RER" be converted to efficient suburban rail style system used in cities around the world like Tokyo and Paris. If Metrolinx really wants to get it right, I think all of the following need to be done: * Complete freight/passenger separation (at least...

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

I see.... How about high platforms then? Once RER or smarttrack starts to run at Union, having level exits from the single-deck modern EMUs can greatly increase loading/unloading speed... But still I would think the narrow platform is a big risk to large volumes..

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

So the narrow, low platforms are kept as is? Is there a plan to convert them to wider, high platforms once GO RER starts and single-deck EMUs are used? I've seen a lot of other places have platform layouts like this: ------------ PLATFORM ------------ TRACK TRACK ------------...
