Noticed some demolition equipment in the parking lot this morning on the way by the site - a big excavator with the pincer thing. Looks like the hotel will be taken down fairly quickly?

With all the talk about the glass, I thought I'd take a good look at this thing. True to the discussion, this glass has to been seen in person to be appreciated. It's really, really nice and the photos (save the one about four posts back) don't really do it justice.

I remember crossing the bridge by the dam - back in the day it was a single lane with a set of lights to alternate between allowing northbound and southbound traffic to cross. I also remember swimming in the reservoir in the days before Wild Water Kingdom came along. And fishing at the base...

That is the first shot I've seen that really gives a sense of how outrageous Burj Dubai is. Sweet mercy, that thing is tall.

Eyes Post has indeed left the building - the company was sold to Creative Post last month. The building has been totally gutted since then, signage for the new condo went up this week.

Too bad it's not feasible. There's really no way to collect the tax as the City can't get it from the bottlers, and would have to rely on retailers to collect and remit the tax. I'd love to see the city take a real progressive stance and ban the sale of all bottled water within the city...

I'm partial to Space (Richmond and George) although I wish they would have built the original. Either way, it gets a lot of negative press, but to my mind is a decent addition to the neighbourhood.

The blue building was Westburne Electric and it is indeed coming down along with the small retail area fronting King that used to house a Pizza Hut Express. The Pizza Hut moved east into the building next to Westside Lofts at King and Bathurst.

Starbucks in the Upper Beach Kingston Road and Bingham - the coming soon sign went up yesterday. Hooray for me as I live just around the corner.

The new Starbucks is on Hanna Ave. - opens tomorrow.
