TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

The ION vehicles won't be coming from TB by then. The line would been cleared off for TTC vehicles while the rest would be manufactured at Kingston (according to their plans). Eglinton, dead or not would be manufactured at Kingston anyways.
The question was, would they need additional flatcars for transport. They'll still be using flatcars to ship from Millhaven.

That deployment schedule is worth just as much as the all the previous deployment schedules communicated by that company.

Bupkiss.

We all know how accurate those previous schedules were.

The previous schedule was bang on the money. 30 cars by end of 2016. Some even arrived a few days before their designated dates towards the end of the year.

I think it is reasonable to believe they have a handle on things now.

An entire one out of how many schedules was accurate, then? 1/10? 1/15? Statistically this one can be assumed to be missed as well. I want BBD to start delivering Flexities as bad as the next person, but to be realistic, there is no reason to believe this schedule, and many reasons to disbelieve it.

That doesn't mean they can't. BBD is one of the largest company out there and if they really want to get it right, they obviously could. Previously management obviously didn't care and only recently have they actually put in some effort to correct the situation under new management.

The bottom line is that this is all speculation; we'll just have to wait and see. Now, everyone slowly count to ten...;)

TTC service returns to Exhibition Loop this weekend

February 17, 2017

TTC buses and streetcars return to the Exhibition Loop at 5 a.m. this Saturday morning, Feb. 18.

Over the past 13 months, the Loop has undergone extensive work including the rehabilitation of concrete on both TTC and GO properties (eastbound GO platform), replacement of a 100-year-old retaining wall with a new barrier wall that separates the respective properties, drainage work and track replacement.

With the work now complete, full service can resume for the 509 Harbourfront, 511 Bathurst, 307 Bathurst (night) and 363 Ossington (night) routes.

The 511 BATHURST may have to remain as buses, as long as there is a streetcar shortage. Would have thought that with the 501L and 501M QUEEN replaced with buses west of Roncesvalles, they wouldn't need to. We'll see this weekend.

Meanwhile, in this article on possible New York City streetcar routes, at this link, they include a PDF, see link, that includes photographs of Toronto's Flexity streetcars.

A fully realized transit system that lessens congestion to improve quality of life

Frequently spaced stop interval at key destinations
– 30+ stops approximately ½ mile apart
– Stops located in the center of the road and blending into the streetscape

Reliable schedule: 5-10 min between arrivals during peak hours

Operates in street right-of-way, with as much exclusive lane as possible

Interacts with vehicular traffic only at intersections

Modern streetcar vehicles can carry more people more quickly than buses

Must maximize connectivity to subway, ferries and buses

Fare pegged to MTA subway fare

Stops ½ mile apart? That's 800 metres apart. Not if the NIMBYs have anything to say about it.
