Toronto Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

Bonus points to everybody who recognizes exactly which parts of Union station this is all located in (HINT: It's all the same part of Union)

I went through the Via Rail concourse about a week ago. Looks like quite a bit of progress has been made since then.

Certainly is tight while waiting for trains down there now.

It's amazing how well Union station was built tah they can do what they are doing to it now.
I know of a house that collapsed when they tried to lower the basement floor.

I also know of two brick buildings that collapsed because some constructon accidentally bumped a pillar. Including a heritage building in Ottawa, at Bank-Somerset (article, pics) via a forklift accident.

They better damn know what they are doing! :D
Which I believe they do.

Needless to say, I would hate to be forced to take the GO bus on a clogged Gardiner for 1 to 2 years at a makeshift expanded GO bus terminal in the aftermath...

Thanks for the excellent VIA Concourse pics from a couple of weeks ago @mdrejhon, and I'm glad to have the pics that Metrolinx took too in the Bay Concourse construction zone @salsa! I should be checking this thread more regularly.

Here are some updates from yesterday, starting with the moat outside the Bay Concourse:

Note in the pics above that there is now one doorway fully cut from the front wall, where eventually there will be ten, with the second one nearly done. To the west of that, the pier from where the moat bridge over the doorways will start has been formed, as has half the new stairs from Concourse level to moat level to the west of that.

Meanwhile, in the great hall, things are coming along, especially behind the black curtain where the terrazzo counters used to be, and where a restaurant is going…

Great Hall out of the way, let's turn and head down the ramp into the VIA Concourse. I'm looking forward to this skylight being all fixed up one day…

Down here it's much like what @mdrejhon found earlier: walls and ceilings stripped right down to the concrete, an old door revealed…

…and the promise of good things to come, whatever they might end up being.

One of the openings. Doesn't seem very wide. Looks like about the final width though as others like it are marked for being cut.

So, is the concourse level going to have double height ceilings or are they just making another level below the existing concourse?

Where does this catwalk lead to? Those don't seem like doors, just windows.

Some sunny winter day, it will be so awesome to be in that solarium in the moat.

Doesn't seem to be. They carved backwards the top edges underneath the depth of iron H-bars, which may allow them to knock "every othe pillar" in Step 2. That is how it is done, so it may not yet be final width. I could be wrong. Time will tell...

Another level below.

There is also a basement being dug underneath VIA, too, so a fairly large shopping mall will suddenly appear by 2019 (ish.). Small York sections will open gradually 2017 probably, and the whole new Union basement be a bustling booming place in the mid 2020s.

From TTC, a very wide (20-doors wide in diagram) stairless level pedestrian expressway straight forward to the Bay Concourse Escalators (6-escalators/stairs wide) located directly underneath the middle of Bay concourse, possibly while walking past a Union Apple Store (my wild guess) and other boutique shops.
