GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Re Bayview - I'm impressed with the faux-stone facing on the new abutments.... a little extra touch to make the old and new match.

Also interesting that they have started the signals/track changes this early, considering that so much signalling work is going on and resources are stretched. Perhaps the bridge has indeed fallen off the schedule.

They've done a pretty good job of integrating old and new construction on the various projects. Witness the expansion of the bridges at Georgetown and Weston, both were done with faux-stone facing. I'm particularly looking forward to the treatment given for the new bridges over the Rouge River as part of the triple-tracking there.

Burlington GO station should be ready in fall: Metrolinx

Metrolinx is promising commuters that the new Burlington GO station will be "fully functional" this fall and all the dust settled by the end of the year when construction is expected to be complete.

The latest timeline puts the Fairview Street facility more than two years behind schedule from the original reopening set for early 2014.

Some of the work that's been finished in the last year has included the west tunnel that links to the south station, as well as new washrooms.

Metrolinx spokesperson Vanessa Barrasa said the transit service made sure the 7,300 daily customers have still been able to access the existing station and services since work began in 2012.

"The new station building under construction at Burlington GO will be fully functional this fall, with (all) construction wrapping up at the station by the end of the year," Barrasa said.

While much of the exterior of the station has looked the same for months, the bus loop on the station's south side is expected to be among the major project completions in the fall.

It will accommodate 10 of the city's buses, and another three belonging to GO Transit, while also helping to improve the overall parking lot traffic flow.

The cost of the initial contract awarded to Bonfield Construction was $13.8 million.

Metrolinx said earlier this year that several delays had increased the project budget to $20 million.

Barrasa said the project had "several unexpected delays, including the relocation of a transformer and communication systems." As well, "two harsh winters and subcontractor issues" also had a part to play, Barrasa said.

Metrolinx would still likely cover any potential additional overruns in the coming months above and beyond the current budget.

I guess someone high up had to come up to say I am wrong on the completion date I have been using.

If the roof of the the 2nd phase takes as long as the first phase, 2017 completion date. They can throw asphalt down where the concrete is not pour this year to get the bus terminal into service, but it should be concrete from day one and no reason it shouldn't.

Yes they can get phase 1 fully open by fall since its been ready since 2015 once the elevators are working. That should be Sept or Oct.

Until the roof is in place, can't use the new east entrance, but should be able to use the new parking lot this fall, assuming they have the metal roof on the walkway which I don't see happening.

Paradigm next door has built the 3 levels of underground parking as well 3 levels above ground and working on 5th floor of the first tower. This started in Jan 2016.

I should note the base of the concrete wall along the corridor is 2 feet thick with reinforcement in it.

There are photos floating around for the Torbram Rd 2 grade separation and not much to see when I saw it early this year.

Hamilton
Sept or October will see the west end open for both parking and the station. Foundation place between the 2 stations platform for fencing, with grading taking place to get ready for installing the south track. A fair amount of track work relocation still has to be done to line the tracks up for the platforms.

Precast panels still have to be install on the south retaining wall.

No idea what the time table is to build the tracks east to connect to the main corridor and most likely 2017.

Looks like King City GO station is going to get a parking structure. I know local politicians have wanted to improve the parking situation there for a long time.

Not sure why but text in the MERX listing for this references the Kitchener Corridor instead of the Barrie Corridor:

Metrolinx is accepting bids (“Requests”) for emergent survey services for the Kitchener Corridor, as more particularly described in this Request Document as required by Metrolinx.

The south pier will be built first for the Desjardins Canal Bridge.

If you look real close at the brick panels on the north section, you will see it will not match the existing structure like I said so last week. When looking east from Plains Rd, you will not see the different until you look at the support next to the channel and the existing structure. For 95% of the public who travel along the path, they will not really pay attention to the 2 different look or even care. The current brick look are larger in size and not sure off hand if that design has been used elsewhere in the past.

Looking at these pictures and the contributions from others and thinking of previous posts, I think that GO may have more than four dozen active separate construction projects including stations, track twinning, parking garages, line extensions, signalling and eliminating level crossings. If you count the pieces on LSE to Bowmanville and LSW to Niagara those alone add up to another two dozen un started.

That is one hell of a lot of project and construction management expertise required.

While not complete, there is a site that lists over a hundred Metrolinx concurrently in progress, plus affiliates (TTC), in a map explorer:
