The Monarch Building on Wellington Street used to be one of the higher buildings on its block in Toronto's King West area, but it and its neighbours are now sandwiched between The Well — in the foreground of this image — and KING Toronto, still under construction behind it. These two major developments have utterly changed the area west of Spadina Avenue, and the change continues as upcoming residential and retail openings come along with new public realm. So, while the older buildings may now look like they are being held captive between their more broad-shouldered neighbours, it's a better 'hood they're now hanging in.
