On Thursday morning, about 16 hours after the deluge, even as the Don River was basically within its banks again, parts of the Bayview Extension and Riverdale Park West remained underwater. While the new mouth of the Don and its spillway through the Port Lands were designed to drop water levels more quickly, Waterfront Toronto has always indicated that the new mouth would not prevent all future flooding events. If it hadn't been built though, we would now be staring at a larger bay up the Bayview Extension where one shouldn't be, but thanks to climate change, we're dealing with at an unpredictable frequency.
