Rising above Richmond Street East in Toronto’s Old Town, Celeste Condominiums is now close to topping off, with its residential floors complete and work shifting upward toward the mechanical penthouse. Designed by Sweeny &Co Architects for Alterra Group of Companies and Diamond Corp, the 40-storey mixed-use building integrates retained heritage walls at 125 George Street into its podium. Since UrbanToronto’s previous update in March, 2025, the tower has advanced from its mid-rise stages.
Looking northeast from George Street in August, 2025, Celeste has risen to roughly 28 storeys, with enclosure work underway below. Window wall glazing and light-toned spandrel panels extend to approximately the 19th floor, arranged in four vertical bays separated by three stacked bands of balcony slabs fitted with glass guards. Between these rows, slender vertical strips of cladding continue upward, reaching to about the 21st floor. At grade is the retained heritage base at the southeast corner, while construction vehicles and traffic control signage line the curb.
In September, 2025, white tarp wrapped portions of curtain wall glazing framed in light-toned spandrel panels around the podium levels. The tower steps back at the fifth floor, with a notch at the northeast corner accommodating the construction hoist. Cladding has advanced to roughly the 26th floor, with dark-framed glazing contrasting beige spandrel panels. Along the east face is a stack of projecting balconies with exposed white concrete slabs.
In a drone view from December, 2025 that faces southwest towards the financial core, the structure stands at around 39 floors, with the final two levels being completed. The amenity floor is distinguished by its higher ceilings, and remains wrapped in white tarp. Below, enclosure work continues, with dark-toned cladding panels being installed along the projecting balconies on the east elevation and within the balconies on the north face, extending to roughly the 17th floor.
A northeastwards view from an elevated vantage point captures the cladding of the south elevation installed to nine storeys below the current top level. Projecting platforms extend from the facade in a couple places. Up top, formwork is still in place for some of the last pours, with just the mechanical penthouse left to create, completing the tower’s vertical profile.
This month, green netting envelops the retained heritage walls at the base as restoration work progresses under the direction of ERA Architects. The multi-storey masonry building at 125 George Street forms the podium’s street-facing component, with its original massing preserved, while new construction rises directly above and behind it. Hoarding protects the sidewalk, maintaining public access and safety during facade rehabilitation, which will include masonry repair and window replication.
A more distant southeast-facing street-level view situates Celeste Condominiums within its Old Town context. We see the thicker rooftop slab above the final residential amenity floors, marking the transition point for the mechanical penthouse still to come above. Below, exterior enclosure has advanced to roughly the 34th floor.
Celeste Condominiums will stand 137m tall and deliver 516 condominium units.
