Alias is nearing its full height on the east side of Downtown Toronto, with construction now approaching the 48th floor and cladding progress highlighting some of the distinct design features from podium to crown. Designed for the Madison Group by Teeple Architects with Turner Fleischer as Architect of Record, the tower has advanced significantly since UrbanToronto’s last update in December, 2024. The changes are seen at two scales; local scale where the podium levels now sport randomized black brickwork, while above on the skyline, the tower’s dark curtain wall is increasingly punctuated by randomized gold-rimmed accent frames.

Where the podium curves at the corner of Church and Lombard streets, the black brick installation continues. As of early May, 2025, the image below captures a layered facade composed of standard matte-finished black brick with an increasing frequency of glazed black bricks as the wall goes up, with vertical piers of glazed black brick projecting outward. At right, crews work on a platform. Above, another platform, the underside of which appears at the top of the image, provides a stage upon which to apply insulation and weather barrier.

Viewed looking southeast across Richmond Street later in May, black glazed brick has now wrapped around to the laneway-facing section on the west elevation, rising to the fifth floor, and seen in the shadowed pocket on the right. Beside to the left, the 12-storey Richmond-facing mid-rise volume is nearly fully glazed, with blue weatherproofing awaiting its brick finish. Above, the dark cladding of the main tower volume rises in a grid-like pattern.

On the south elevation facing Lombard Street, the black masonry now climbs beside the construction hoist. Behind and above, the tower’s westward curve can be seen over the sixth-floor outdoor terrace. A flatbed trailer staged with materials sits at street level.

Alias is now rapidly approaching its uppermost storeys, with structural work cresting around the 47th floor and cladding installed up to approximately the 37th, and only the 48th storey and mechanical penthouse left to form. On the Church Street elevation, an isolated column of openings on the right spans seven floors, awaiting cladding. The gold-rimmed accent frames, a feature that becomes increasingly prominent as the tower ascends, are placed in a randomized configuration, and can now be seen clustered near the upper floors (and more sporadically interspersed in lower sections, including two to the left of the as yet unglazed column).

Looking southwest from the corner of Church and Richmond, Alias rises with its curved glazing acknowledging the corner above the preserved McVeigh’s Pub building. Along the north elevation, the randomized gold-rimmed window frames have become more visible, appearing intermittently at various levels, including the 22nd, 26th, 30th, and 32nd floors. A notable cluster is now emerging near the top, with two frames on the 38th floor and another on the curved transition at the 37th floor. Below, cladding continues across the 12-storey Richmond-facing mid-rise volume, where we see inset balconies awaiting guards.

Alias will rise to 160.52m and deliver 592 condominium units.
