The second of Solmar Development Corp's trilogy at Edge Towers, Edge 2, has reached a new milestone at its site in central Mississauga. Recent drone imagery by UrbanToronto Forum contributor Tim MacDonald offers a glimpse into the ascent of the 40-storey second phase at 24 Elm Street West, while also capturing the below-grade work for Oro, the third Edge Towers phase which is poised to rise 50 storeys along Hurontario Streett, a couple blocks south of Square One Shopping Centre in the heart of that city.

Designed by Rosario "Roy" Varacalli with Cusimano Architect, the buildings are situated between the future Fairview and Burnhamthorpe stations along the Hurontario LRT, now under construction. All three towers are depicted in a south-facing marketing rendering of the development, below. While currently the 50-storey Oro is beginning to head for ground level from the bottom of its excavation pit — underground parking levels are now being constructed — the last concrete has been formed at the 40-storey Edge 2. To the west of both, the first phase 35-storey Edge 1 tower is already occupied.

This image below captures the top of the now topped off Edge 2. The tower crane stands over the site, its jib reaching out over the formwork of the future third building. There's still a ways to go with Edge 2, so its rooftop serves as a temporary staging ground for construction materials, cordoned off by safety barriers. Meanwhile, machinery in the mechanical penthouse — a hub for the building's HVAC systems — can be seen in the uppermost two floors.

Below, looking straight down from the drone's bird's-eye perspective, the work at Oro unfolds. The sub-grade work is nestled between Hurontario Street and Edge 2. While construction materials and forms stand out against the cured concrete on the southern two thirds of the worksite, the northern third is marked by a patchwork of multi-toned gray tiles: those are the top layer of the forms below, over which concrete will next be poured as more of the parking level slabs are completed.

Finally, this wider aerial perspective looks southwest to Oro's pit and the topped off Edge 2 behind it. While Edge 1 is hidden behind Edge 2, the latter two phases are presented within their local context of other completed Mississauga residential projects from over the years.

Upon completion, the Edge Towers will have introduced over 1,300 residential units to the Mississauga City Centre area.

UrbanToronto will continue to follow progress on this development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about it from our Database file, linked below. If you'd like, you can join in on the conversation in the associated Project Forum thread or leave a comment in the space provided on this page.
