Throughout October, UrbanToronto is celebrating 20 YEARS, with stories looking back over the last two decades. Each day we are also checking out our ever-changing street scenes, comparing an older "Then" shot with an up-to-date "Now" shot.

For today's 'Then & Now' comparison we look south down Bay Street from just north of Grosvenor Street. In the 'Then' photo from 2005 we can see the north tower of Residences of College Park Condos under construction, which was designed by Graziani + Corazza Architects and completed in 2006 at 155m. The south tower was later completed in 2008. Elsewhere, the view towards First Canadian Place is relatively unobstructed, with only a few buildings located on the west side of Bay (right of the image).

Today, the similar view southward is quite different, with a number of buildings constructed since 2005 that have created a canyon-of-sorts down Bay. Most notable in the 'Now' image is Lumiere Condos, developed by Lifetime Developments and Menkes Developments and completed in 2011. At the terminus of Bay Street you can now see the top of INDX Condos (54-storeys), and while not seen from this vantage point, there are now a plethora of mixed-use buildings just north of where this image is taken from, including Burano at 48-storeys and the Murano towers (35 & 45-storeys respectively).

Come back tomorrow for another Then and Now from over UrbanToronto's last two decades!
