The redevelopment of the Newtonbrook Plaza in North York, known as M2M Condos, is making progress as the first phase of the Aoyuan International project approaches the end of its construction. Designed by Wallman Architects, the 34 and 36-storey towers are near the completion of their forming process. Photos taken by Edward Skira in late June and July provide a glimpse into the ongoing construction progress.

The image from June below gives us a northeast-facing view of the two towers. Notably, the installation of balcony guards on the north tower has caught up to the south tower for the east elevation. Both buildings have topped off with the completion of the two-storey mechanical penthouse. A crane perched atop the north tower stands out, its red and white colours in contrast with the hoist systems running up the centre of the southern faces of both buildings.

A month later, we get a similar vantage point of the shared podium of the west and south facades. The curtain wall glazing spans across the podium, and blue weatherstripping across the top of the podium suggest amenity terrace is underway. Atop the south tower, an orange tarp indicates ongoing work at the mechanical penthouse level.

Taking a closer look at the towers' lower levels, the progress of the north facade's accent cladding is evident. It has progressed halfway up the north tower. The patterned design motif is gradually asserting itself, with a series of staggered balcony accents creating visual interest.

Over at the east elevation, the wooden-panel soffits under canted concrete elements of the lower balconies are clearly visible. The red forklift, construction materials, and wooden crate at the forefront signal ongoing work. The building's unique pattern is also seen on this side, with smaller U-shaped patterns sitting beneath the angled frame.

Looking upwards from the same vantage point, the perspective draws our attention to the towers' east elevation. The balcony guards on the south tower have reached the top, while the north tower still has several storeys to go. The pattern on the north tower's north facade is also seen on the south tower, with intermittent lines visible.

Back at the northeastern view from Yonge Street, we have another glimpse of the podium and lower storeys of the south tower. Looking through the windows, it's possible to observe the ongoing interior work.

The towers are undeniably making a clear mark on this extension of the North York skyline.

The coming months will likely witness the completion of the towers' exteriors and the removal of the remaining crane, marking the shift of the project into its final construction phase. However, the bustle of construction could soon resume here once work commences on the second phase, which includes two additional towers to the north.
