Just over a year after the opening of their stylish presentation centre across the street from the TTC’s Leslie Station, Amexon is taking the next step forward to bring the master planned Residences at Central Park community to life. Following an immensely positive response from homebuyers in the first few months of sales, the project is ready to see shovels hit the ground, and has now begun the early site preparation work ahead of the first phase of construction.

Occupying a 12-acre site on the edge of the East Don Parkland, just west of the intersection of Sheppard Avenue and Leslie Street, The Residences at Central Park will eventually consist of four residential condo towers, a mid-rise rental building, and two retrofitted office buildings, with designs from Core Architects and interiors by II BY IV DESIGN. Delivering a complete mixed-use community with nearly 1,500 new suites, the development fuses the unique natural amenities of its ravine site with a high level of local and regional connectivity, thanks to its adjacency to both TTC and GO Transit stations, bringing the convenience of urban infrastructure to a one of the great ravine greenspaces in this city.

To efficiently manage the construction of the ambitious city-building project while minimizing its impact on the surrounding ecosystems, a detailed construction plan has been established outlining the phased approach that will guide the realization of the development over the next decade. The early stages of phase one mostly involve setting up the infrastructure that will protect the existing landscape from harmful erosion and pollution, after which more traditional construction work will be able to commence.

The early stages also encompass the grading of the site to create a level and workable surface for the shoring rigs to be able to navigate safely. Referring to the image below, we can see that this process has been underway since early June, and has since been completed.

Around the perimeter of the site, erosion and sediment control as well as tree protection measures are also approaching completion, while in the centre of the site, we can see that a pair of shoring rigs have arrived. This would indicate that the primary focus of phase one, creating half of the underground parking garage, is set to begin in the coming weeks.

With four levels of parking planned below grade, the excavation and forming of the garage structure will be a significant task, but the effort made early on will improve the speed of construction in the future. The first building scheduled for construction, the 31-storey Tower One, will be able to commence its vertical climb right from grade level, and the same will be true later for the three-tower building occupying the southern edge of the site.

After months of anticipation, the start of early construction work on the site of The Residences at Central Park is an exciting breakthrough for the Bayview Village community and the rest of North York. With a ground breaking ceremony expected to take place in the coming weeks, the project is entering the summer with momentum.
