Trillium Health Partners has begun work on its massive Trillium HealthWorks expansion program, which includes totally replacing the Mississauga Hospital on Hurontario Street, and greatly expanding the Queensway Health Centre across from Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke. We recently covered what is going on at the Mississauga Hospital site, so today it's over to Etobicoke where the above-grade parking structure at the south end of the site has recently had its foundation poured.

At the south end of the DIALOG-designed structure, the walls of the lowest level are beginning to be formed, a red mobile crane in use to lift heavy pieces into place.

The parking structure will come to stand eight storeys above grade, with space for 1,462 vehicles.

Once the parking needs of the hospital are taken care of, work can move on in a couple of years' time to a new 9-storey, H-shaped building, designed by Stantec. The new health centre will be dedicated to complex care and rehabilitation services where patients can receive care and recover in a modern, purpose-built environment.

The health centre will retain its existing buildings while the new 600,000 ft² building – situated at at the northeast corner of the site on what are now surface parking lots – will have room for over 350 new beds. The new patient tower will link through the McCall Centre for Continuing Care to the rest of the hospital.

Construction for the new patient care tower is expected to start in 2024.
