Rising on the southeast corner of Duncan and Adelaide streets in Toronto's Entertainment District is 19 Duncan, being developed by Westbank Corp and Allied Properties REIT. The Hariri Pontarini Architects-designed tower has recently seen the installation of glazing on the lower floors of the tower while crews continue to work on forming its upper levels, as it heads towards its final total of 58 storeys.

Our last update on the project was in October, when the first instalment of window panels had been affixed to the building's podium levels. At that time, the building stood a mere eleven storeys above grade – as crews worked on the first level of the tower that would rise above its podium.

The tower has grown significantly since then, to a height of 32 storeys. Glazing is now being fastened to the facade of the tower, featuring a frosted-type look at the top and bottom edges of each sheet of glass, the 'frost' applied through an enamelling process called fritting. Also of note, curved glass is being used at the corners on the tower levels, similar to what appeared on the podium levels.

The podium floors will be the new Toronto home of news media giant Thomson Reuters. The tower levels that rise above it will consist of purpose-built rental units, with the exception of levels 52 through 55 which are reserved for a collection of 40 hotel suites. Upon completion, some retail and restaurant spaces are expected on the ground level.

Looking to the ground level now, a neighbouring lot is home to the storage of various building materials being used up above. The ground level itself has not yet been fully enclosed yet, not likely to happen until the materials that are being stored have been installed, and the area can be cleaned up. Eventual landscape design around the building will be appointed by Janet Rosenberg & Studio.
