Three skyscrapers are now towering where a surface parking lot once welcomed commuters' cars just north of Islington subway station in Toronto's borough of Etobicoke. Tridel's Islington Terrace is a Kirkor Architects-designed condo tower trio and townhouse complex that has already brought a significant boost of residential density to the area.
At Mabelle and Cordova avenues, the third and final condo tower—named 'Bloor Promenade'—has topped off at 44 storeys, and more exterior finishes are being applied. Upon our last update in August, the tower had just had its final residential floor formed, with crews in the process of building the mechanical penthouse level above.
Currently, exterior finishes being added to Bloor Promenade include glazing and window wall installation on the top six levels of the tower, while balcony guards are also under installation — mainly on the northwest corner — with about half of the tower left to go.
At the base of the tower, while many of the major elements such as cladding and glazing have been completed on the townhomes, the front steps are still missing, and the landscaping that will begin at the entrances of each home and wrap around to the driveway area has not yet been completed. Six large concrete planters have been placed, and crews are beginning to bring in dirt to kick off the landscaping work that is to be done.
Islington Terrace's trio of towers ascend from a shared, c-shaped podium. Construction for the tallest tower, standing at 45 storeys at the centre of the block, wrapped in early 2020. The 35-storey second phase to its west—named Bloorvista—followed shortly after, and has also been completed. Both are currently home to residents. Retail at the base of Bloor Promenade (seen in the image below) is beside to the base of construction hoists and is likely still many months from completion.
