Now over two years since a ground breaking marked the start of construction for Solmar Development Corporation's new Edge Towers community near Square One in Mississauga, the Roy Varacalli-designed complex's initial phases are progressing along Elm Drive at Hurontario Street. The first two phases of three are now under construction, with the first phase tower now rising above grade, and the second phase tower soon to follow suit.
The 35-storey first phase tower, which was having its underground parking levels formed when we last checked in on the site in June, 2020, now rises four levels high at the west end of the site. With work now clear of the three-storey podium and forming underway on the fifth floor slab, the tower's smaller floor-plate will allow a quicker ascent over the coming months.
Work on the 40-storey second phase, known as Edge T2, is now progressing too. When we last looked at construction progress ten months ago, the T2 site was being excavated. Since then, the excavation has wrapped up, a tower crane has been installed, and forming of the underground levels is advancing.
The flagship third tower—to be the tallest on the site, rising 55 storeys—has been dubbed Oro at Edge Towers. It will eventually be constructed at the west end of the site where the sales centre was built.
Edge Towers forms part of a growing spine of density hugging the route of the Hurontario LRT line, now under construction, and which will feature two stops within a two-minute walk of these new buildings.
