This week's Throwback Thursday takes us back just over three years, for a before and after comparison of a new condo development in Toronto’s Regent Park neighbourhood. The first three phases of the revitalization have been led by private developer The Daniels Corporation working with the Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) to build a mix of market condominiums and new rental housing. On Block 16 South of the community plan, work started for market condo building DuEast Condominiums at the end of 2017 with the arrival of drilling rigs to begin work on the site's shoring system. In the background of this view facing northeast across Dundas Street East at Sumach, a crane was in place building a TCHC rental building at Block 17 North, which eventually wrapped up construction in 2019.
Three years and two months later, finishing touches are now being put in place as construction wraps up on the Core Architects-designed DuEast complex of 11 and 29-storey buildings. Adjacent to the it, the lower levels are taking shape at the next complex coming to Dundas East, the Artworks Tower and Artsy Boutique Condos complex. Designed by BDP Quadrangle and Kirkor Architects, the complex will bring 11 and 33-storey condo buildings to the northwest corner of Dundas and River streets.
We will return next week with another look at the changing face of Toronto. In the meantime, you can submit your own Throwback Thursday comparisons in our dedicated Forum thread for your chance to be featured in next week's edition.
