A wave of mid-rise development activity is sweeping along Kingston Road in Scarborough, with several new projects planned and under construction on this emerging strip in the east end of Toronto. Steps from Kingston Road's merger with Danforth Avenue, Merge Condos at 2201 Kingston Road is one such project from LCH Developments/Lifestyle Custom Homes. With architecture by RAW Design and under construction since early 2020, it will soon become a twelve-storey mixed-use building.
Drill work on the shoring system began in the first months of 2020, the official ground breaking ceremony having followed during the summer. Excavation began in September, 2020, bottoming out 12.75 metres deep below Kingston Road, since allowing the start of forming of the building's below-grade components. The first of these was a crane base, with the tower crane having been erected in October.
The first sections of a 2 ½-level underground garage are now in place, as crews simultaneously form the partial P3 and full P2 levels. Forming will continue to work back up towards street level in the coming months, before construction moves above grade for the ground floor. The completed garage levels are set to house 183 parking spaces, with 180 resident spaces and three serving the live/work component.
Once construction wraps up, Merge will rise 39.2 metres above Kingston Road, and introduce 180 condominium units along with new ground-floor live/work commercial space, adding new life and street-level animation to a neighbourhood on the rise.
