A new mid-rise residential community is moving through its early stages of construction just steps from Humbertown Plaza near Royal York and Dundas in the Toronto borough of Etobicoke. The Benvenuto Group's 293 The Kingsway will a group of new buildings around the cul-de-sac of St Stevens Court, replacing a series of mid-20th century mid-rise apartment buildings that were cleared earlier this year to make way for the redevelopment.
We last checked in on the construction progress at the Quadrangle-designed development in June, when shoring work was underway for both the first rental and condominium buildings. In the time since, shoring has wrapped up for the condominium at the south end of the site.
As shoring continues for the rental building, bulk excavation has also begun. This has allowed for the start and subsequent completion of tieback installation, with the stressing of tiebacks set to begin next. The condominium excavation is also well underway, as crews continue to install lagging and a dewatering system to manage the site's high water table.
The site will be excavated three levels deep, creating space for an underground garage with space for 554 vehicles— 449 for residents and 105 for visitors.
Residents of the initial phase will have access to a collection of amenity spaces appointed by Patton Design Studio, set to include a 3,420 ft² fitness studio, a games room, a pet spa, a dining room and party room. A 7th-floor outdoor rooftop terrace overlooking the surrounding community will feature landscaping by Terraplan/Studio TLA.
