This week's Throwback Thursday takes us to Toronto's Liberty Village neighbourhood for a look back at the construction of a new mid-rise office building at 80 Atlantic Avenue. In June, 2018, an east-facing view from the parking lot south of Lamport Stadium showed work underway on the new five-storey, Quadrangle-designed building for Hullmark Developments with partner BentallGreenOak on behalf of Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada. A crane stood high over the site as forming materialized for the building's poured-concrete base, while subsequent levels would be constructed in timber
20 months later, a March, 2020 view captured from the same vantage point shows that hoarding is down, tenants have moved in, and only a few panels of exterior materials remain to be installed. Though freshly opened and small in stature, the building's sustainable timber construction and striking architecture (see especially our earlier stories about its interior spaces) have generated plenty of attention from architectural and building industry publications in recent months.
We will return next week with another look at the changing face of Toronto. In the meantime, you can submit your own Throwback Thursday comparisons in our dedicated Forum thread for your chance to be featured in next week's edition.
