Downtown Toronto's Richmond and Victoria intersection is home to the rising Yonge & Rich Condominiums, a new condominium tower from developer Great Gulf, cheekily named for its proximity to the intersection of Yonge Street and Richmond Street East. The 46-storey architectsAlliance and Graziani + Corazza Architects-designed project is rapidly rising towards a 156-metre height, and has made significant progress in the almost exactly five months since our last update.

Yonge & Rich stood 29 storeys tall then, and work has since advanced to the final floors of the tower, expected to top out in the coming weeks. At this height, the two conjoined tower volumes have started to differentiate themselves from one another as additional exterior details are installed.

Cladding installation reached up to the 13th floor when we last checked in in October. Hidden behind the balconies is window wall with white spandrel panels covering vertical wall sections. Front and centre though are the two quite different balcony treatments meant to break down the massing. The northwest volume has balconies that are fronted by simple, fritted white glass guards, now installed in places as high as the 30th floor.

The southeast volume, however, sports a much flashier treatment on its balcony guards, which do not yet rise so high. These balconies are being finished in a mix of clear glass and perforated aluminum panels with a white powder coat, forming a randomized geometric pattern something like a crossword puzzle.

This contrast of the simple and elegant northwest volume and the much flashier zig zag of the southeast section will become increasingly eye-catching as the tower tops off in coming weeks and the cladding continues its rise to cover it all.
