Nine and a half months of construction have unfolded since we last checked in on construction at Cityzen Development Group and Fernbrook Homes' Tower at Pier 27, the latest phase of the Pier 27 community on Toronto's waterfront just east of Yonge Street. The 35-storey, architectsAlliance-designed condominium tower is now in its last stages of construction, with the first move-ins about to get started.
When we last checked in on the project in May, 2019, the building stood just shy of its final 115-metre height. The tower's mechanical penthouse level was being formed and the main building envelope of window wall cladding had been installed as high as the 20th floor, while balcony guards were in place up to a few levels above the podium. Forming wrapped up shortly after our last update, and cladding installation has since brought the building much closer to the aesthetic shown in preconstruction renderings.
Now almost entirely clad, the building's shifted floorplate pattern has been fully realized, though the vertical strip along the tower's east elevation, home to the construction hoist, still remains to be finished. With the internal elevator systems now operational, work on the hoist's removal began earlier this month. Once removed, the last sections of the tower's exterior will finally be sealed off and fritted glass balcony guards installed.
The building's first residents gain access to their suites in the podium this week, and additional occupancies will come online in the following months as interior finishing work gradually makes its way up the tower. The initial residents will join a community already home to a group of four mid-rise condominium buildings, crisscrossed by a pair of three-storey skybridges.
