As the year draws to a close, our last Throwback Thursday of 2019 takes us to the northeast corner of Toronto's Bay and Bloor intersection, where Morguard is wrapping up a revitalization of their 14-storey office building at 60 Bloor Street West. Originally designed by Zeidler Partnership Architects, the 1970-built office tower was showing signs of age before a B+H Architects-led modernization began in 2018.
Almost a year after the project began, much of the old exterior had been stripped away as installation of new windows progressed.
A view from December, 2019 shows how the tower's exteriors have been re-clad in an energy-efficient building envelope, along with interior modifications in an effort to meet LEED Gold certification. The dark strips running vertically along the tower faces are LED lighting strips that give the building an increased presence after dark. Hoarding has been removed as the finishing touches are put in place for the project's conclusion in January.
