Photos captured yesterday by UT Forum contributor sikandar show why architecture enthusiasts have a big reason to look forward to the two-phase CIBC Square office and retail development at 81 and 141 Bay Street. In the first two, taken minutes apart, the changing reflections of light on the diamond-patterned glazing shows the visual treat that can be expected from one moment to the next.
The phase 1 tower continues under construction at 81 Bay Street, designed by WilkinsonEyre Architects of London, England, alongside Adamson Associates Architects of Toronto. Once completed, it will stand at 49 storeys tall. The estimated completion date is late next year, and with it begins the construction of the 53-storey, phase 2 tower situated north across from the rail corridor. The project is undertaken by developers Ivanhoé Cambridge jointly with Hines.
'sikandar' captured one more image later in the day as the sunset emerged, just hinting at the different colours that will be seen once the structure is fully covered in glass.
