The Runnymede Healthcare Centre, just south of Dundas on Runnymede Road in Toronto's West End, is planning a big expansion. A planning application was submitted to the City earlier this month calling for a six-storey, Montgomery Sisam Architects-designed long-term care centre for individuals who require 24-hour nursing care and personal support.

Planned to replace the surface parking lot immediately south of the existing Runnymede Healthcare Centre, the new 14,034 m² building would rise 30.8 metres with a “Z” shaped design consisting of a central volume flanked by wings extending to the east and west. The wings would be home to the long-term care component's 200 beds, while the central section would house communal spaces such as a dining area, lounge spaces, clinic space and activity rooms.

Residents of the long-term care facility would also have access to a landscaped garden planned between the building and St. Johns Road. Public realm enhancements are also proposed, including an upgrade to the POPS (Privately-Owned Public Space )at the site's southeast corner, enlarging it to a new size of 477 m². Landscaping of private and public spaces is being handled by Vertechs Design.
