60 years since Reverend Roy E. Upton began hosting drive-in Sunday church services to crowds of about 100 cars in a Dominion Store parking lot, his legacy has grown into the current Global Kingdom Ministries church serving the heart of Scarborough. Occupying an 11-acre site on Markham Road near Progress Avenue, the church has since grown to serve nearly 1,900 attendees each week for Sunday services.
To celebrate six decades of serving their community, Global Kingdom Ministries will be hosting festivities throughout the month of May, including the launch of a 55+ faith-based condominium community called Trinity Ravine Towers.
We got our first real look at the proposed development back in January, when we visited the project's on-site presentation centre to check out the model suite, the scale model, and to learn about Trinity Ravine's Life Lease program, which offers similar protection to freehold ownership and many of the same benefits as traditional home ownership.
The development would rise to the immediate north of the existing church facility on a site currently occupied by a surface parking lot. Designed by Reinders + Rieder Ltd., the two 25-storey towers will rise from a shared four-storey base building containing amenity spaces like an arts and crafts centre, a fitness centre, a movie theatre, and more. Residential units and common amenity spaces will feature interior design by Johnson Chou Inc..
“We’re very excited about the concept behind Trinity Ravine Towers condominiums,” said Pastor Kern Kalideen. “This residence is the epitome of immersion in faith-based living. Two high-rise towers will be connected by a four-storey amenity podium. Residents will enjoy wellness and fitness facilities, entertainment venues, a computer lab and even a community dining room. The Life Lease is a popular form of ownership here and in Canada. Owners will pay a monthly occupancy fee to cover maintenance, administration and a reserve fund overseen by the board of Global Kingdom Ministries, which is the community’s sponsor.”
