Ryerson University's new 150,000 square foot learning and study facility continues to turn heads at the corner of Yonge and Gould Streets. Designed by Snøhetta with Zeidler Partnership Architects, the eight-storey Ryerson Student Learning Centre, though still yet to be completed, has already become a landmark on Yonge Street just north of Dundas.
The building's unique shape and standout cladding have made it a fan favourite among our Forum readers, who continue to praise its creative design and contribution to Yonge Street.
The north side of the building is the site of a blank featureless wall which, until recently, was nothing more than bare concrete. This northern wall, which faces a row of storefronts with redevelopment potential, will soon be clad in a glazing similar to the rest of the building. In the image above, we can see that a weatherproof material has been installed in advance of cladding. The rest of the building has already been clad, except for the ground and mechanical floors, as well as three wedge-shaped sections which will be finished in a blue textured cladding.
Before these triangular sections can be filled in with their blue accents, they must be prepped with metal framing and gypsum sheathing.
In the images above, we can see the yellow sheathing covering up the triangular notch on the building's southeast corner. Below, we have provided a shot looking at the similar notch on the building's southwest corner, showing both the yellow sheathing and the metal framing underneath.
