Ocean Club, a new condominium complex in Etobicoke's Humber Bay Shores area by Beaverhall Homes and Graywood Developments, is now beginning to rise from the huge pit that was excavated for it in 2012.

With a 39-storey tower, 10-storey boutique-size building, and a small 5-storey commercial building fronting Lake Shore Boulevard, Ocean Club will soon join Monarch Corporation's Waterscapes condo, close by to the east, as the latest additions to this quickly growing area. The aerial rendering of the site below shows the Page + Steele-designed project (before the tower and boutique building each had two floors added) and its relationship to Lake Ontario.

Many more buildings are approved for the strip along the south side of Lake Shore, while it was announced in late 2012 that the new owners of the Christies Biscuits factory across the road (a small part of which is pictured in the background of the image below) will be applying to redevelop its extensive site as well. Early indications are that the factory redevelopment plans face a very rocky road.

Whatever does happen to the north side of Lake Shore here, the south side has been transforming rapidly over the last decade and only shows signs of continuing.

Waterscapes can be seen under construction to the east of Ocean Club. With several months of a head start on Ocean Club, Waterscapes' podium is topping out currently, and work on its 30-storey oval tower is just beginning.

There are a combination of townhomes and retail units planned for the ground floor of Waterscapes' podium, with the retail units making the best of the exposure across Marine Parade Drive from the popular Humber Bay Park, and along the east side of the Graziani + Corazza Architects-designed complex which will face a public square.
