The extension of the Spadina subway line isn't the only major development underway up in Vaughan; Expo City, part of the massive masterplanned Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, recently broke ground. Developed by the Cortel Group, the second tower is one of five that will occupy a site on the eastern edge of the 179 hectares of land set to become the suburban city's new downtown. Expo City is designed by Alan J. Tregebov, Architect with YYZed Project Management.

Earlier this spring the second tower at Expo City was launched, ahead of Cortel's original expectations. Brisk sales at Expo City I meant the schedule could be moved forward. While tower I will be ready for occupancy in 2014, tower II should be complete in 2015. The Expo City II launch event, below, saw quite the crowd flock to the project's sales centre, with a number of notable attendees at the ceremony.

Expo City II will rise 37 storeys and contain 351 units, featuring a variety of unit plans from bachelors to two bedroom plus den. Post-tensioning the floor slabs, a technique common in US highrise construction, but one which is used rarely here, will allow for wider spaces than are commonly found in condominiums in the GTA.
