July has been an exciting month here at UrbanToronto. Despite the expected summertime slowdown in the condominium market, we’ve seen plenty of activity around the office. Our previous home up at Yonge and Eglinton got a bit cramped, so we made the move downtown, and what better location than in the dramatically changing east side of downtown. Close to the St. Lawrence Market, Distillery District, waterfront and Yonge Street, we couldn’t have found a better place from which to watch the city grow over the next few years.
One of the many perks of our new location is the prime view we now have of Pure Plaza’s Ivory on Adelaide, located just east of Sherbourne Street on the north side of Adelaide. While the construction noise may not be entirely conducive to writing, we can’t wait to watch the building rise from the site right outside our window.
Ivory has been bustling with activity over the past few weeks, with pile drivers making quite the racket around here. These machines pound steel beams around the perimeter of the site before excavation in order to reinforce the perimeter walls before they dig down.
Ivory on Adelaide will eventually rise 19 stories and will contain 272 units. Designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, the building differs from the surrounding warehouses through its use of ivory-coloured cladding. While we may not end up with the best view — one that will look into the building’s picturesque courtyard — we nonetheless can’t wait to see Ivory completed. For all the latest on Ivory, head over to the associated project thread, found through the dataBase listing below.
