^ More applicable to GO DD coaches than LRT, but obvious for both...*especially* with quick-release front wheels that can be popped off in two seconds, thus reducing the space taken even more.
In the newer DD coaches, there's a space either side of the doors where you can stand a bike on the bars and fork tips w/ the front wheel popped off, takes far less space, and leaves the very awkward area under the stairs usable still for the seats.
It's all a bit too sophisticated for Toronto though....
Btw: The system for 'lashing' a bike on the Flexities is utterly ridiculous. I just use a loop of Velcro that I carry with me on the bike to secure the rear wheel rim to GO bus bike racks.
