It's about 5 months late, but I was in Berlin this summer and made a detour to visit Tempelhof airport before it closes its doors. At the time, it was only serving lousy air shuttles to German 'C' cities like Saarbrücken - a market that has largely been captured by high speed rail service. There was practically no security anywhere so I could wander about at will.
We start off at the Platz der Luftbrücke U-bahn station, which is a hop, skip and a jump away
no parking lot shortage here
inside we get a good view of the fantastic red ceiling
It's a little grainy, but the ticket agent here was obviously so bored that she was on the phone making personal calls from behind the booth for about half an hour.
I love this postwar German font. It used to be ubiquitous.
Parting shot: the Air Bridge memorial, which is deceptively small
