It's about 5 months late, but I was in Berlin this summer and made a detour to visit Tempelhof airport before it closes its doors. At the time, it was only serving lousy air shuttles to German 'C' cities like Saarbrücken - a market that has largely been captured by high speed rail service. There was practically no security anywhere so I could wander about at will.

We start off at the Platz der Luftbrücke U-bahn station, which is a hop, skip and a jump away

It's a little grainy, but the ticket agent here was obviously so bored that she was on the phone making personal calls from behind the booth for about half an hour.

I love this postwar German font. It used to be ubiquitous.

Parting shot: the Air Bridge memorial, which is deceptively small

I assume you know that Ernst Sagebiel designed Tempelhof airport during the Nazi period. And it has that characteristic style that is still quite recognisable for that era.

What Tempelhof fan *doesn't* know that fact?

My answer may be difficult to follow, but I shall make this one attempt.

These somewhat important facts, at least to me, were never actually stated to this point in the thread. But I also assumed that those who were participating thus far knew these facts. The purpose of saying this now was in anticipation of visitors, who might not be fans, or simply are not aware of this information.

Beyond this explanation, I don't know what you are asking and/or suggesting.

Tempelhof red is an opulent yet energetic colour for high-traffic areas. That's why I chose it for my spare bedroom, which got plenty of use at my party ... as a coat-check room.
