We live in a joke of a city. He focuses on Spadina, which I don't usually see, but Church St between Queen and Adelaide is going to be a gridlock nightmare.

There's already some kind of construction and excavation work happening now between Yonge and Victoria in the right lane westbound that is pinching Adelaide down to one traffic lane, and the backups are horrendous.
That's on top of the constant deliver vehicles, and Uber pickups and dropoffs that block and choke the traffic to a single lane, which is the streetcar lane.
It's almost comical that we created this new "streetcar priority" route, and now it's actually slower than ever before.
They should have simply routed them down to King. That was so obvious.


Actually, looking at the plan, I wonder if an option should be to drop the King Street vehicle restrictions through the construction period, at least from Spadina to Yonge, to at least get some cars out of the way off Adelaide and on to the road space the TTC won't be using for streetcars.

I'm pretty sure it will be faster to walk from Queen and Church to King and Spadina rather than take the 504 via Church, Richmond, York, Queen and Spadina. Even though that's a 30 minute walk.

It certainly will be.

I can already see 504 cars (eastbound) being backlogged trying to turn northbound onto Spadina from King, and vice versa going westbound. Not even talking about the other turns. Then add to the fact the city wont optimize signal priority for streetcars, then add the TTC's insane rules to special trackwork and what you'll see is a complete disaster.

On a standard day, I could already bike faster then both the 501 and 504 from about Bathurst through to Yonge (it took me less than 10 mins, compared to ~15-20 mins on the streetcar). I can only imagine how dreadful it will be in the summer.
 
In the downtown core (Bathurst-River, south of Bloor), biking is always faster than any other mode (other than car in the middle of the night or Sunday morning) except subway, if both destinations are close to a station. Streetcar has never been able to compete with biking for speed.

Everyone living in liberty village and working downtown should be planning to walk to work, because they'll be strolling by dozens of streetcars backed up at Spadina.
 
This diversion will be completely unworkable. The TTC would be better off running separate services to Charlotte loop and Distillery loop in the west and east ends respectively and running a separate bus service in between. I know riders hate having to do these transfers but a through service is useless if it's unusable in practice.

I believe they are doing work on overhead at Distillery Loop which in my honest opinion was shortsighted given everything else going on.
 
Well Lakeshore and bathurst are now fully open again.
That went by so quickly.
who was it scanscon? seems like theyre doing much better at this now

According to the City Road Restrictions data, this Bathurst work will continue until July 31. (Yes, contractor is Sanscon.)
 
TTC service changes coming May 11 to accommodate construction at King Street East and Church Street

May 5, 2025

Beginning Sun., May 11, there will be changes to the 503/303 Kingston Rd, 504/304 King and 508 Lake Shore streetcars due to City of Toronto watermain replacement and TTC track renewal at the King St. E. and Church St. intersection. The TTC will also upgrade overhead streetcar infrastructure on King St. E., Sumach St. and Cherry St.

“Replacing streetcar tracks is about safety, reliability and building a more resilient city,” said TTC Chair Jamaal Myers. “These upgrades are designed to meet growing demand, ensuring our infrastructure can support future development and expansion.”

“We understand that construction can be disruptive, and we’re committed to keeping impacts to a minimum,” said TTC CEO Greg Percy. “Thank you to all the teams involved in this important work, and to customers and surrounding businesses for their patience during this construction.”

The following routes will be impacted:

May to June

There will be no streetcar service on King St. between River St. and Spadina Ave. Customers travelling on King St. can transfer to a 504C or 504D/304D King replacement bus, which will operate between Broadview Ave. and Gerrard St E. to Bathurst St., as well as in the Distillery District.

The 503/303 Kingston Rd, 504/304 King and 508 Lake Shore will all operate on Queen St., via Church St., Richmond St. (westbound), Adelaide St. (eastbound) and York St., and return to King St. via Spadina Ave.

The 503 Kingston Rd will be extended and will operate between Dufferin Gate and Bingham Loop.

July to August

The 503/303 Kingston Rd, 504/304 King will continue along the same diversionary route.

The 504C and 504D/304D King replacement bus will continue operating along King St., but divert around the King St. E and Church St. intersection via Jarvis St., Front St. (eastbound), Wellington St. (westbound) and Yonge St.

Wheel-Trans service will remain accessible in all areas where local traffic is permitted.

Yes it was Scanscon doing the work and they have been a lot better than other contractors doing TTC trackwork and cannot speak to non TTC work they have done.

Don't know of any other trackwork north of Fort York to King as I saw nothing there a week ago.

If it has to do south of the Lake Shore and eastbound on Queens Quay, that hasn't started yet.
 
If I remember right the last time the entire wasn't bogged up with deferred repairs and endless 501A-Z diversion was 2012? After the Ontario line construction is done will everything be running?

I fixed it, I hope! Anyways, kinda poor planning, probably this is in part due to deferred maintenance, etc, etc. It will be a frustrating summer
