TTC: Other Items (catch all)

So no riots. Got it.
Not sure what point you're trying to get at? Threats are ok if nothing happens?

Does anybody know when the numbers for fare evasion in 2024 will come out? I saw plainclothes inspectors are now a thing so it might adjust peoples habbits.

Well, that sounds like it's either going to delay the streetcar return or make it so that we have another disruption at some point in the future.

I was optimistic at the beginning of January when I saw this at the rear of the 320 property:

Yes, working on the expropriation now does seem bit late. Not sure whether they can open the streetcar station again before this gets dealt with. This from Steve Munro may be of interest https://stevemunro.ca/2023/09/18/streetcar-queues-at-spadina-station/

FWIW TTC website still says reopening in March 2025 https://www.ttc.ca/about-the-ttc/projects-and-plans/Spadina-Avenue---overhead-upgrades

They aren't close to awarding the main construction project. As far as I know the current work is just an early works project. Utilities perhaps (complete guess).

I have not idea what you are referring to.

I'm concerned that you are making references to black rioting and threats in Toronto that I honestly don't recall. Can you link to this?
The point is it never happened. Nor were threats made of it happening. Saying we had riots is a lie, and not even a clever one.
There definitely wasn't any rioting. Some stores on Yonge did board up because of what was happening in the States as a precaution, but they were just being cautious, there wasn't any specific threats

Dozens of retailers, including ones whose stores span entire blocks felt the risk was high enough to justify boarding up their storefronts.

I know most of the riots are in the states but there was a lot of damage in other Canadian cities.

So again, no riots happened. Nor were any threatened.
What's the word to describe someone who makes up stories about fictitious riots and threats at black protests?

Montreal arrests more than that and have more damage anytime the Canadians make the Stanley Cup final. It's normally worse when they win. 🤷‍♂️

Was there much protesting on the TTC?

I don't know if @smallspy or one our engineers might have insights, but I have a couple of questions around structural works I've seen in the subway lately.

First, Main Station:

Some of the old vertical beans and/or their cross-braces have been replaced by new metal supports. I don't recall seeing these used before in a station.

I'm curious as to the nature of the work, whether these are the new permanent supports and if so, why not the traditional beams? Also, is the TTC going to paint them black to match?

Second question around structure.

I've been watching the evolving work at Spadina station on the streetcar platform concourse.

My pics from January 31st, 2025:

I examined these from several angles....... I couldn't ascertain they were actually supporting anything. In most locations they don't touch the ceiling, but where they appear to, I don't see any beams or key structure. I assume I'm missing something, but was just curious if others had insights.

To my untutored eye they do not look like structural supports, more like supports for the 'wiring trellis' that is at Line 1 stations like King (I assume for ATC). As ATC is eventually coming to Line 2, could this be the precursor?
