I don't see how discussing supporting the TTC budget with increased property tax, or mileage taxes, are unrelated.

The BBC's obsession with North American crime is getting out of control. Watching the BBC World News, you'd think that no one was ever killed in other continents.

The good news, is that with the upcoming budget cuts, the BBC World News channel will be collapsed, and primarily replaced by the UK BBC News channel.

That should end BBC coverage of minor crime oscillations on the TTC!

On the bright side, this will be good for pressuring the city to do something. Nothing worries the city more than negative publicity that’s being aired globally.

On a sidenote, I have noticed less (didn’t see any while there) homeless and mentally unstable camped out at Yonge and Bloor and Dundas this past weekend. Perhaps the visiblity of the police is working?

Addendum, what is with St. Andrew station and the dark lighting? It’s very dark on the platform and I can see why it becomes a magnet for certain crowds to hangout.

St. Andrew suffered significant damage from a water main break. Hadn't heard about lightning being affected, but the elevators and escalators were impacted and out of service for at least the next week.

This could be something recent, as noted above, or you could be referring to all-LED lighting on the platform which has a bit of blue-tint to it.

St Andrew was one of the first, if not the first, station to get LED lighting. Being an early adopter, the quality of light has never really been as good. It's always been somewhat dimmer and colder than, say, Osgoode.
 
King Station Capacity Enhancement Project
Design phase - Utility Engineering Investigation (February – May 2023*)

What we are doing and why:
The TTC’s Line 1 Yonge-University, is the busiest rapid transit line in Canada and plays a crucial role in moving people in Toronto and in the Greater Toronto region. Ridership has grown over the years, and pre-pandemic it regularly exceeded the scheduled capacity south of Bloor-Yonge Station during the morning rush hour. As ridership recovers, there remains a strong demand to address overcrowding conditions which impact the passenger experience, system efficiency and reliability. The TTC is planning for capacity improvements at some of Line 1’s busiest subway stations. This important project at King Station will improve passenger flows, fare line clearance times, reduce bottlenecks, speed journey times and improve the overall customer experience at the station. As part of this program, construction work is planned at King Station to meet both current and future ridership demand starting 2025*. Prior to that, crews on behalf of TTC will be conducting early investigation work for the design phase of this project.

Schedule for TTC improvement projects at King Station:  TTC is currently working to build elevators that will make King Station accessible. Construction crews on behalf of TTC have begun construction work at street-level on Elevator “E1” on Melinda Street and Elevator “E3” at Yonge and Colborne Streets. The construction notice for this work can be found on our website.

Utility investigation is required as part of the design phase, and is scheduled to take place as early as February 2023*

 Construction for the King Station Capacity Enhancement project is scheduled to begin as early as Fall 2025*. A notice including more details about what to expect during construction will be shared in advance of work beginning in the area (2025)*.
The Easier Access project and the Capacity Enhancement project are separated in time and have separate funding. They cannot be conducted concurrently.

The streetcar companies of the yesteryear had to plow their tracks AT THEIR EXPENSE. The rest of the street was not plowed. As the rich and elite got their new playthings, the automobile, they found out they got stuck in the snow. Except on the streetcar tracks, so they used the plowed tracks to get through. Since the rest of the city streets were not plowed, they got stuck in the snow away from the streetcar tracks. Since the rich and elite tended to be on city council, they ordered the city to plow all the streets, so they can use their playtoys in winter... at the city's expense.

Streetcar right-of-ways (like on St. Clair Avenue West) had to be plowed by the streetcar company, at their expense. Since the city was now plowing all the streets, the St. Clair streetcar right-of-way was removed (starting in 1928 between Bathurst and Dufferin), to save money on plowing, since plowing the mixed-use street was done at the city's expense.

Well I have a minor run in this morning with a homeless guy who chose to stand right at the door with all his belonging and refuse to move aside and let others through a busy stop. This is the kind of behaviour that any sane operator of transit should brook no tolerance of.

Well, yes but was this at the door of a subway car (TTC staff are not common on platforms but even if there cannot be at every door) or on a bus (or a streetcar) where staff (operators) are not far away or at a station exit where were are (sometimes) staff. Of course, 'something should be done" but without some details it is hard to know what - having hundreds of staff or security wandering around is clearly unaffordable.
