TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Even doing currency conversion is meaningless. A dollar is a dollar regardless where you are.

Some of MTA projects are highly price or overprice and decades over due.

Cash fare in York Region is different from TTC, OC or any other system and has been set higher for x years.

If one looks at MTA fare structure and compare it to TTC, TTC riders are getting a good break. In fact, if you look around the world, TTC has far too many fare structures/breaks. No one offer free rides to 12 and under other than TTC. Have Tory explain that.

I still say TTC needs to do a true real budget showing all items including the below the line and cost for them, as well revenue and then give it to Tory and council to say what do you want removed or added to our 2017 budget to get approve. Lets see these clowns try to pare the budget down to what they think it should be with an explanation why and what will happen to the items removed from the approve budget.

Its time to face the fact that the white elephant on Sheppard either pay for its self or be mothball with buses replacing it. If riders bitch about it, then they should be given the choice of maintaining it by paying the full fare cost to use it on top of their normal TTC fare. At the end of the day, riders will say no to the extra fare cost and accept the bus in place of it even though it will be a longer ride.

Byford has not seriously proposed contracting out work in his years (he contracted out washroom cleaning which saved $1.5 million but that's it). Doesn't have the chops to take on the union....again which is the CEO's job.

Precisely. Reduction of cost should be a regular activity in the public sector and when it is not, you get Detroit.

If you think there are zero opportunities to reduce cost in a huge organization like the TTC, including cutting staff levels which is usually line item #1 in public sector budgets, you are kidding yourself.

Relations and the scope of negotiations with the unions are the mandate of the city, not TTC executives. It is explicitly not part of his job.

If you think that after ALREADY going through this exercise multiple times in very recent history there are any opportunities for material cost reductions than you are seriously ignorant of how anything works.

They've been found already. They're gone. There's nothing left but change under the sofa. If not IOUs to be found.

Yup. We payed millions of dollars for that KPMG report not very long ago.

it's better than hypothetical arguments...at least it warrants a simple study by the TTC. How much does VIVA pay per km for their outsourcing (with the small operation it would be the minimum saved)? How much does it cost to run a TTC bus? A minus B will determine if there is savings to outsource (and if there is a more detailed study/3rd party pricing would be required to stage the outsourcing)

You forgot about the contracting out of the bus cleaners and the contracting out of the info people. But again, we're talking about pennies when compared to the $1.7bil yearly budget.

What if you lose the Metropass today, and are without one for the rest of the month? Or, you buy a second one to use for the rest of the month?

Some people use the MetroPass for stopovers. Because of the requirement that the regular fares can't be used for stopovers... allegedly.
Oh, I agree. And I have no Metropass this month, being on the MDP program, and having only just returned from vacation today, after August passes go off sale - for the first time in - about 5 years when I sold a pass to someone because I was on a 3-week vacation our of 4 weeks.

So ... instead of 2 trips today up to Danforth on a bus, I'll walk instead. So less trips. But more exercise!

How do you know they haven't studied this?

Anyway, TTC collective agreement with the ATU has a no contracting out clause. Until that's eliminated, this whole argument is pointless.
