Toronto Yorkdale Shopping Centre | ?m | ?s | Oxford Properties | MMC Architecture

The 3rd and 8th panel on the north side of the Bay will have Bay billboards. The west side now has Topshop billboards.

With all this talk about the flower pods/mushrooms at the entrance to Eaton's, I coincidentally stumbled across this old postcard recently that I bought at a flea market ages ago. Undated, but with the following notation on the back: "The Vista at Eaton's - Elegantly continental balcony - Excellent cuisine - Yorkdale Shopping Centre - Toronto, Ontario, Canada"

It's funny that you think the outside is a heritage asset (I suppose it is) but I think the internal courtyards of both the old Eatons Store and Simpsons store were more important heritage elements. The flower pods (at Eatons) and the concrete staircase in Simpsons were amazing elements of mid-century department store architecture. Both have been totally destroyed :(

Agreed, all the best features were destroyed for the same blandification that has disfigured all of the malls. Pathetic

If Mr. Peabody would let me use his time machine, I would definitely check into Yorkdale in the 60s.

Just think what you could shoot and record using today equipment when you go back in time.

Just think of the miss or screw up shot you could re-shoot using today equipment back then since you will see the shot in seconds, not the week or back then.

Since you will not have to worry about the 12-36 shots on a roll of film used back then, you could take all the shots you want on today cards.

I thought about this also, but for other things as well getting some nice videos as well.

A small part of the expansion is open in order to access the new parking levels below. I took a few cell shots:

if you go to the movie theatre they have removed the bording which used to hide the exit to the above ground parking lot but now is the expansion. I didn't even bother taking a picture with my retro blackberry but someone should get on it.

From the last 4 photos,.... That purple & pink hue lighting on the ceiling make the place look cheap,.... like a cheap casino 0r strip joint.

But if it glowed different colours for different occasions that would be cool,....
