Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

When it comes to transit this chap either discusses things that are zany, or already exist but acts like he invented - such as this instance.

And yet no municipalities, academic journals, nor even the New York Times call you to get the real deal, instead... Weird.

Timeline:

The timeline is ridiculous. Actual construction won't happen until 10 years from now. Given the experience of the Spadina extension that will easily take another 8 - 10 years. So it will be opened 2036 the earliest. The TTC Corporate Plan originally schedules to open it 2028 - 2032.

I wouldn't read too much into those timelines. It's all up to the government(s), the sooner they fund this, the sooner construction will start.

True but this looks more like they would like to appear forwarding the project without actually forwarding it.

What would you expect them to say? "Construction starting next year" even though they have no funding? Or rather, "Construction starting sometime in the future"?

Extension to Sheppard West with a wye to connect with Wilson Yard?

Its far better (and this coming from someone who DOES want Sheppard extensions (all else being equal, opportunity cost certainly is a thing). Connecting to Wilson does allow feeding Yonge at the north end, but doesn't address that WIlson is basically at capacity. Even if we do expand Wilson it runs into issues with how fast trains can actually exit the yard, with only so much improvement possible given that Sheppard would not have direct access to Wilson without travel on Yonge.

Another yard works better in every way.
