Kind of makes me sad. I prefer the sidewalk TTC entrances over going through buildings. They were much easier to locate and much more convenient in the sense that the stairs would take you directly into the station.

Much better for pedestrian circulation on the surface though.

Those stairs did not go directly into the station. In fact, the new entrance is just as direct (indirect), though I can agree it isn't quite as apparent from the street.

Yea, this one isn't that bad... but the TTC entrance definitely gets lost in the mess that is this cube. I had some issues with this in Shanghai, where locating some subway stations was difficult because they were incorporated within buildings where signage disappeared within the mess of signs applied to the buildings.
 
Old TTC street entrance - TTC responsible for maintenance, cleaning and liabilities.

New TTC entrance integrated into building - building management/developer responsible for construction, on-going maintenance, cleaning, liabilities and they also give TTC one time connection fee (usually millions of dollars).

BTW, really surprised this old TTC street entrance doesn't appear to be converted to air vent as many other former TTC street entrances has been repurposed for.

Me too! They are much more common (and attractive) in New York but they are few and far between even downtown here.

I went to check this building out a few weeks ago since I was already in the area. I would never go back (perhaps only to check out the roof), for a building that was supposedly redone it has the worst internal circulation and way-finding I have experience at a GTA mall in a long time. It is really quite unpleasant.
