Toronto Fire Services lays Ontario Fire Code Violation charges

Charges for a violation of the Ontario Fire Code have been laid against the City of Toronto and Bondfield Construction Company Limited.

On or about December 17, 2018, three of four exit doors were blocked in a means of egress at Union Station.

Toronto fire inspectors conducted a review of the incident and, in consultation with assigned outside legal counsel, determined there were reasonable and probable grounds to support a charge under Article 2.7.1.7(1) of the Ontario Fire Code: "Means of egress shall be maintained in good repair and free of obstructions."

Violations of the Ontario Fire Code pose a serious risk to building occupants and responding firefighters. The penalties for violations run up to $50,000 and/or a year in jail for individuals and up to $100,000 for a corporation.

Judging by how things worked lately along that stretch (narrowed access route, etc), I'd say they haven't learned much.

AoD
What's astounding is the deafness surrounding this whole affair. It's one thing to be chronically late and being of questionable workmanship, it's quite another to 'do as you like' while being so. It's as if we're all interlopers on Bondfield's Fiefdom, and their way of doing things...or the highway. Pun fully intended..

The Union Station reno could stretch into 2020. Not surprising but it should have been done 5 years ago. Thoughts?

It was to start in 2012 if funds could be found.and being an on going issue yearly since then.

Given the talk about about moving the portal west and a new entrance to Wistin, a new EA will have to take place. Only once a cost is known for the new change, we will know if the new proposal is the right way to go or not. Will not known until 2021 which is the right way to go. The earliest construction can start is about 2023, if funds can be found.

And the original plans:

^ So would all pick-ups/drop-offs happen on the new parallel platforms or would the areas around the curve still be used? And I assume that by LRT they mean all vehicles? So the Queens Quay East LRT, Spadina and Harbour/Exhibition lines would all stop in the same place?

All (A1 and A2) the current Union Loop passengers drop everyone only 2/3 of the way from Queens Quay to Front, and then you have to walk?

The people who did the first EA were lying when they said the portal had to be east of Yonge due to lack of space to build a ramp up and clearance issues with pipes under Yonge Street. Now the new people in charge are saying they can put the portal west of Yonge and all they need is 10 years and a new EA to confirm.

I think all the plans shown above pre-date the decision to have the new CIBC Centre provide a 'station' (or at least some sort of 'area' in its basement - west side along Bay - and the move of the GO bus terminal to that site. Yes?
