Toronto Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

SmartTrack is just a label on enhanced RER service.

They have a plan to migrate from about 28 trains to approx 50 trains in the peak period ...

Union capacity is an issue, but we already do 7.5 minute peak Lakeshore West at 4:45-5:45 -- the extra capacity adds room for 15min for all routes all day long.

It is the 5minute scenarios that may not happen....

That's what I am asking. Maybe GO RER will be able to do what it discussed for 15 mins all day long but the ridership surveys suggest to make a big dent in ridership they need 5-10 minute service, and if that happened what would have to happen to Union?

5 to 10 min seems doable on a few routes but not on all GO routes. They can do it with the ~50 train per peak scenario, with the Union-preloading technique (load up before peak) to briefly increase train output during peak by avoiding frequent outgoing conflicts with frequent incoming.

Oh, and VIA still stores their trains at Union. There is also room for more accesses (14/15) in the York concourse, if platform sharing is implemented for that track.

Probably the federal government in France is paying most of the costs as well.
I am no expert on French governments and their jurisdictions...but do the regions act like our provinces? are they responsible for transit (as our provinces are) and do they have the same powers of taxation? (honest question...I just don't know).

Posts regarding the York Street PATH tunnel have been moved to the thread for that tunnel, here.

Speaking of Union.... When are they going to finally illuminate the glass box?

It badly needs illumination from the inside to give the whole box a nice warm soft glow.

Holding off until Union revitalization completion?

Bonus if it's a hybrid (warm white for usual illumination, combined with occasional-use RGB LED lighting), running the LED lights sparingly during "special" events like Leafs Playoffs and Canada's Day. Even if as static color schemes, with lighting animations reserved only for the really special events.

So sparingly is 1 time a year and 3 or 4 games every 10 years?....so 14 times a decade?
