Thanks - turned out a lot nicer than I thought I would have been. Definitely continued the great Charles St. architectural tradition. There is something very European about the spaces created and the juxtapositioning of the buildings.

Pleasant surprise indeed. Very welcoming feel to the airy open space. Should look quite lush when the greenery landscaping becomes complete. Would be a nice spot to have tables and chairs in the middle to relax and take in the charming surroundings.

Also, I love the jagged roofline of the original building.

The architecture turned out great. The cladding of the new building and paving of the courtyard turned out to be exceptional. The harmony between the new building and all the surrounding buildings in the courtyard feels European because it's so rare for builders to go for that here.

Great university campuses are defined by their spaces between buildings. This does a great job of creating a kind of semi-private quad for Vic students to gather. When I was at Marg-Ad ten years ago, it was a very under utilized space.

I'll miss that little sitting area just to the south of the residence where the new building now sits (as seen in the second photo above). Perfect place to have a smoke.

The courtyard looks great but I still see this building as a bit of a bunker, which aesthetically looks like it was meant to be placed on the St. Michael's College campus, given the materials and facade details.

I really wish Hariri Pontarini could have been behind this project. What we got here looks so "heavy" and just doesn't look like a Vic building to me.

It's very exciting to see the Wymilwood building restored, though. I'm particularly excited about that, given that most buildings from that era in this city are underloved or would have been replaced altogether with new construction.

Shots from the ceremonial opening, last night, in chronological order, wandering about. The restored Wymilwood sections are terrific, love the refreshed Eric Arthur details, love the occasional low ceilings! I like the new flow: the Wendy Marion Cecil Atrium makes the first floor work so much better. While the exterior has been accused to being too bunker like (maybe the stone to glass ratio is a bit on the heavy side), I quite like the rough vertical inserts (outserts?) between the smooth, polished panels. Inside, the GSC does not feel bunker-like whatsoever. Oh yeah, love the ivy growing up the wire strands outside the windows, and everywhere else.

The field to the east of the Goldring Student Centre has been fenced off and entirely re-sodded. About time!

Nice enough fence. The Toronto Parks types who specced the fence for the Clarence Square dog park should be brought by to see it.

I don't like the mis-shapeness of it. Too many odd diagonals for a sports field. And where'd the football goals go?!

My first ever project. Looking back, I think KPMB would have given Vic a better building, but the thinking underlying the overall site plan won Moriyama the day.
