Toronto The One | 328.4m | 91s | Mizrahi Developments | Foster + Partners

What I am tired about is the seemingly endless speculation [...]

A lot of the discussion in these forums is speculative. It had run its course, but it was an interesting discussion with thoughtful posts. In the absence of much other news in respect of this development. That's all I am saying.

There's an Apple Store thread in the Retail section where anything general about Apple stores should be. Please keep this one to specifics about this site…

regarding which, until there is something new, the information has pretty much been exhausted for the time being. Time to wind this down?

So we’re not allowed to discuss The One’s podium? Note that what’s being discussed here are The One’s blueprints and allowances therein for its anchor retail space. Foster & Partners have built podium retail spaces for Apple and are designing this one as well, giving us a preview of what The One could look like at street level.

We’re not talking about computers or phones here. I would even cast out discussing the merits of an Apple Store at this location. But this has been a legitimate discussion about what form the street level of this building will take. We have precedents from the same architect and we have clues in the blueprints of where structural components seen in those precedents will go in this building. How is that not relevant to the thread?

That might be interesting 5 years ago, it's no longer as validating now.

I was feeling nostalgic. It was more interesting times with the W, aquarium , supertall, music museum, etc. compared to now which is Apple this and Apple that. Or maybe it's all nostalgia. Those are the only ones I can remember.

I'd be very surprised if Mizrahi considered W a chain worthy of his project here.

Any speculation on who would take the hotel spot? Other than W, Toronto already has all the major luxury chains. Well... other than a Trump Hotel that is.

Personally, I wouldn't consider W a luxury brand even if it is considered one. There's one major brand missing that comes to mind. That would be the Mandarin Oriental.

You're allowed to discuss "the podium", but you've discussed this thing to death on a tiny amount of information, you've filled the thread up with flights of fancy based on shots of other Apple Stores… which is all stuff that people will more likely want to read in the Apple Store thread, but not necessarily in this one. It's like discussing fantasy TTC systems in one of the real TTC line threads. Please take the speculation to the Apple Store thread where more people will want to read it, and leave this thread for the facts — of which there are scant few on this store, and they've all been discussed for the time being.

This mini-discussion was had a little while ago on the thread, but a quick summary is that Toronto is actually still without a number of the top-flight luxury hotel chains (Mandarin, Waldorf, Aman, Peninsula, Rosewood, JW Marriott, and even a "proper" Park Hyatt).

Obviously, some of those make more sense than others given the design and likely purchaser profile for this project; if I were Mizrahi (keeping in mind his penchant for/obsession with "firsts"), I'd be looking to land either Mandarin or Aman for their first location in Canada.

The Park Hyatt is getting gutted right now to be re-opened as something much more grand. They have actually stopped operating for 2 years to allow for this. It'll be "proper" pretty soon.

Was it made clear how much of the building the hotel will take up, and how the amenities will work?

AoD

Updated plans with the hotel component were not made available, but we do know 10 levels dedicated to hotel suites and possibly 1 containing both the hotel lobby + residential lobby, which could share level 4 (double height), with level 5 (also double height) being entirely reserved for amenities, which leads to the outdoor terrace. Amenities likely to be shared.
Also shared, the ground level valet and elevator reception, but have dedicated lifts.

Today as promised.
