I noticed that Mink Mile generally went downhill after Pottery Barn closed. Now Pusateris closed.

Certainly doesn't help to have a big empty retail building sitting in the middle of it all.

Plus if you drive up to Yorkville Mall all the retailers in the Mink Mile are in there in a gorgeous, clean, modern section of the mall. It's really quite stunning.

Anyway, it's just kind of sad, because they've obviously spent million and millions trying to make that section of Bloor between University and Church look like the best in our city, but it never really give off that vibe.

Toronto looks positively Soviet Eastern Bloc right now.

Everything is a uniform shade of brown and grey from above.

Unless you catch something lit up from inside or some crazy sunlight, it is unbelievably dreary right now.

Wow that parking lot triggered a response in me. I live around there and am glad that my balcony doesn't face that direction.

I think if we are going to be specific, it is not the new condos that give soviet-vibe - it is the brutalist apartment complexes and buildings from 80s. There are some renewal effort on the older Toronto apartments - like Maddox and the number of apartments on Bay St. I actually was thinking yesterday that how viable are apartment renewal for our housing needs and market.

On the other hand, I do wish that the newer Toronto condos stop using the same template lol.
 
I don't mean to be mean or cynical, but I'm trying to figure out the appeal of living at Yonge & Bloor. You've got the mink mile I suppose - which always feels like it's under various states of construction, is a bit run down or has a bit of homeless population vibe to it. You've got Yorkville to the north which I suppose is the biggest draw. You're close to the ROM. You're on two subway lines (although I feel the residents of One Bloor aren't really the transit types.) I don't know I just don't get it. For that kind of money I feel like I'd be buying somewhere else in Toronto. I mean Yonge Street from Bloor south is pretty much District 9. Bloor running eastwards isn't really anything. Really don't get the appearl. It likes to bill itself as the centre of the city, but that's not even accurate, that's actually Yonge & Eglinton geographically speaking. What am I missing here?

It's Rosedale a 5 minute drive away, not Yorkville itself that anchors this neighbourhood and keeps the upscale shopping nearby, which has started to make having a pad right on the strip more appealing as space has run out in Rosedale itself. You're right, there's nothing but ugly shops and a strip club a stone's throw away from these multi million dollar condos but Yonge is beginning to go through gentrification and more of that will occur the more of these high priced buildings go up.

Yorkville has gone downhill because of the amount of non-stop construction. This intersection in particular has been an exhaustingly persistent construction zone for over a decade. One Bloor East, then The One, then the Lululemon at 1 Bloor West and soon The Bay redevelopment and the Bloor subway platform expansion. It'll be 20+ years before you can walk through Yonge-Bloor without going under hoardings and getting muddy shoes.

Toronto's it spot for upscale dining and entertainment has become King West and Yorkville suffered from the loss of that foot traffic. Yet, Yorkville still holds the title for upscale shopping and I don't see it losing that title given the recent and planned stores.

But a lot is riding on The One bookending the Magnificent Mile with something, well magnificent. Is Andaz Hotel still attached to the project? An upscale hotel with dining and entertainment will revitalize this corner whenever that happens. This would've made a good W Hotel if they hadn't already opened a few steps down the street.
 
My geo location spidey senses tell me this was taken somewhere around Dufferin and Confederation Parkway in Vaughn ^
 
Nah, it's from G. Ross Lord Park, the short and wide building just above the tree line on the left is right next to the Westminster Cemetery, and lines up with the towers at Yonge and Eglinton (Also the One and First Canadian Place would be much further apart if it was taken in Peel)
 
It looks like it is from a more westerly direction so I would guess Brampton or Northern Mississauga.

Nope the apartment buildings you see in the distant left in the foreground of midtown are the apartments beside G Ross Lord, this was taken north of that.
