Looking towards the northwest corner of Bay and Adelaide, the foundation has reached the base of the crane.

Sure hope this building hook's up to the Central lake water cooling system in downtown Toronto...cause they will need it...I don't think this building will pass the ASHRAE 90.1 calc's what is Code.

You figure a developer from the US will know that all high-rise building must follow this code.

Are lot's of Condo's/Apartment buildings in the US cities mostly all glass like so many in Toronto?

This is going to be HUGE problem for some of the buildings with MOSTLY glass...they don't seem to pass the ASHRAE 90.1 software.

What code and what legislative/regulatory jurisdiction does this ASHRAE item fall under? Who enforces it and what agency do the code inspectors or approval authority fall under? Generally nothing in the city would be built without the proper due diligence, approvals and permits followed by regular inpections from a wide variety of public agencies - is this ASHRAE calculation legal requirement or something else that's entirely voluntary or perhaps it simply has no jurisdiction here?

I would have to assume with the amount of money being funneled into this, they're on top of these things. Also, who hasn't passed, and what happens if they don't pass? Do they knock it down and start again?

I'm beginning to think ASHRAE is a code for using the word glass so many times followed by smiley faces and winky emoticons. I second Mike's question about the actual legitimacy of ASHRAE beyond just some software the someone is (doing a poor job of) promoting. :eek:

Is this code part of any regulation or building guideline in Toronto?

Also, other cities have glass towers too, :confused: ... so that must mean we're all made of glass:mad: and need these: :cool:

It seems as though there is some legitimacy to this organization. On their website they have a link to the ASHRAS 90.1 Code (opens in a separate reader). Still, Mike's arguments about jurisdiction and voluntary adherence should be noted.

So heres the score:

1)It exists.
2) We probably don't have to follow it.
