This is for real.

Ontario Municipal Board Final Decision Allows $500 million Trump Toronto Project to Soar to 70 Stories...etc.

That is for real old.

It's from November 24, 2004, and says so when you click on the link to bring up the story in the first place. The 2008 copyright pertains to their whole website.

That does not excuse the fact that nowhere on the website does it mention the fact that the tower is now only going to be 57 floors: they seem to have combed over that fact.

That's because the change hasn't been implanted on the website yet.

Perhaps if any actual news gets posted one of mods can change the thread title to "Trump Tower: Now with updates!".

You know... so those forum members with a fear of levity have no reason to worry.

How about we just forbid posting until the building is actually complete? Then we can avoid having people begging for updates every other post.

Well, really, what updates are we going to have for the forseeable future?

So, how's that hole coming? That's a pretty big hole, eh? Yeah. Lookit that hole.

well, here's some news....interesting this press release says 60 storeys..

Otis Wins Landmark Trump Tower in Toronto

FARMINGTON, Conn., March 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Otis Elevator
Company, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), was awarded a
contract valued at more than USD 10 million to provide elevators for the
landmark 60-story Trump International Hotel & Tower in Toronto.

When completed, the Trump International Hotel & Tower will be the
tallest residential building in Canada. It will feature 261 luxury hotel
condominiums, 118 condominium residences and a concierge-attended sky lobby
on the 31st level.

"We are proud to bring on board a worldwide leader like Otis," said Val
Levitan, president and CEO of Talon International Development Inc.,
co-developer of the project. "With its wealth of experience and innovative
technologies, it is simply the only elevator manufacturer capable of
matching the standards we expect for our property."

Otis will provide a mix of Elevonic(R) 411 gearless, geared and Gen2(R)
elevator systems. Gearless elevators are up to 50 percent more energy
efficient than conventional drive systems, while the Gen2 system is up to
50 percent more energy efficient and 70 percent smaller than conventional
systems. In addition, the Gen2 system provides many other benefits. Its
flat, polyurethane-coated steel belts and gearless machine do not require
any additional lubrication, making the system cleaner for the environment.
The patented flat-belt drive technology virtually eliminates vibration,
providing passengers a smooth, quiet ride and improved overall comfort.
Flat belts enable a more compact elevator system, eliminating the need for
a machine room and offering greater flexibility in building design.

Otis is also providing its EMS Panorama(TM) system, a Web-based
application that enables building staff to monitor, control, report on and
manage a full range of operational-critical elevator functions from any
computer with an Internet connection. With this system, building staff can
monitor elevator performance, security, traffic patterns, key equipment
events and many other critical functions.

"We have had a very successful history with Trump properties, and we
are pleased that our leading technology and environmentally responsible
products have been selected for this landmark project," said Otis President
Ari Bousbib.

Trump International Hotel & Tower, Toronto, is a joint venture between

hotel condominiums available for purchase in Toronto. The building was
designed by the renowned Toronto-based firm Zeidler Partnership Architects.

any hackers out there just got tempted with a new challenge. they may have wanted to keep that secret...

Press releases like that are notorious for lazy fact presentation. The important news from the publishers perspective is that a certain company has won the elevator contract, while how many floors exactly is incidental to the press release. Also suspicious is the rounding that might have occurred to get the 60 storey figure.

In the end, I'd love to see this greatest tower in the history of the world end up at 60 floors; I just don't think we can take this as proof that it will not be a mere 57.

^42, I heard that our chance to build the world's greatest tower might be sunk forever because Dr. Chesworth Niles III, the eminent founder of the Royal Society for the Appreciation of Highrises defines a "world class tower" to be any building that is over 58 storeys in height.
