Toronto St Lawrence Market North | 25.3m | 5s | City of Toronto | Rogers Stirk Harbour

I still think a group from UT should do it ourselves under the cloak of darkness one night. We can set up a Signal group chat to coordinate. Just don't accidentally invite one of those narcs from the National Post.

Or the US Defence establishment.

- The exterior is not as bad as I had thought. The orange louvres really save the building.

It did help a lot - but to think that it was originally meant to be terracotta.

Also, is it too late to ask for some blocks a la Union Station/Front Street?

I think you are over-optimistic, Union is getting hand-crafted new concrete blocks from England. If it gets anything, the Market will get the old Jersey Barriers that are (one hopes) being removed from Union!

Or the US Defence establishment.
I mean...

I was there around 1pm as things were beginning to taper off and promptly managed to get myself locked in a stairwell when trying to get up to the 2nd floor. 😒😂

It too bad the bridges weren't located away from the large end windows towards the middle of the space.
That would have opened up the views to the outside.

I actually prefer them at the ends of the atrium - it adds drama and presence. Having glass flooring would have helped to ensure it doesn't cast as much a shadow, but that train has already left the station.

Gonzo is kinda small though and would of easily been lost for the emphasis here... >.<

Well, I'm going to be nearby today. We'll soon find out how "soft" this launch was. If they're truly going to complete unfinished details between now and May, then they'll be undergoing small construction jobs ahead of every Saturday when they need to stop for the weekend markets. So, if my calculations are correct, it should be undergoing work early on in the week, i.e. today.

What will I see?

A. Mezzanine event space drywall being removed?
B. Blank north wall being tiled?
C. Exposed fire retardant being covered with ceiling panels or louvres?
D. Potted plants dropped off?
E. Bikeshare rack being installed to block desire path?
F. @Natika33 stuck in the stairwell?

Place your bets gentlemen and gentlewomen. Today may be your lucky day.
I get that you're impatient for a building that is fully tricked-out by whatever the opening party date in May is...

...but this building is now functional overall, and that's what the City is celebrating in May. Since this is a new asset that they will operate for decades to come though, I doubt they see it as "every decorative touch needs to be done now" or "every space must be operating in time for the party." No doubt some of what you mention will be upgraded in the future, but I wouldn't set any dates on any of those.

In regards to your north wall granite blocks, I think you're seeing something in the rendering that you want to see, but that's not there. Renderings, especially from early on, are conceptual to greater or lesser degrees, and details change. That north wall may have been foreseen as concrete in a blockish form, and in fact that would be more common material for Rogers Stirk Harbour than granite, anyway... but the point is, working drawings have not been produced (nor the designs fully costed nor tendered) at the time that renderings are created. Don't get too hung up on the details of the early stuff, they are bound to change!

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a building to be fully built when it opens, particularly after a 10 year wait, over schedule and over budget.

Flourishes like plants and decorations are one thing, boarded up walls and unfinished ceilings are another altogether.

I think many of us here would settle for a concrete wall.

M any here have been crying out to get it open for months. In my opinion, better open even if no gala event and some unleased areas - the mezzanine is/was going to be a restaurant.

The schedule for the work on market lane Park appears to have slipped (again). The project website still shows a start of work in late spring 2025 with completion in fall 2025 but now the chronology below shows a start in fall 2025 with completion on fall 2026. This is verging on incompetence!

If one searches Market Lane Park on City website, one gets this lovely photo!!
